I knew it was coming for a few months, and finally during the Super Bowl most of America got their first look at Taco Bell’s new Quesalupa.
Like the best of what Taco Bell has to offer, the Quesalupa is a ludicrous combination of existing things with a name to match. After all, what could be better than wrapping a quesadilla around a chalupa (or anything for that matter)?
In practice what they are offering is a chalupa shell with pepperjack cheese in the middle of it. The result is an interesting and delicious experience of eating the melted cheese while maintaining a buffer between it and all the goodness the chalupa is holding.
It’s not dethroning the Mexican pizza and cheesy gordita crunch from the top of my Taco Bell mountain. But for a specialty item, it’s definitely something I’ll be getting from time to time.
Oh and to complete my first tasting experience, I paired the Quesalupa with a Mountain Dew Sangrita. Absolutely would recommend.
