I Like My Bread Flat

There are few absolute rules in life, but one of them is when your sister says you should review a new Taco Bell item, you review that new Taco Bell item.  I think that one has been in place since Shakespeare’s time, but don’t quote me on that.

The item she was talking about is the flatbread sandwich, which is available in both chicken and steak varieties.  As with all other menu items I can think of that have such a decision, I opted for the chicken.

As you may imagine, there is a nice soft flatbread on the outside.  Inside is the chicken and the same kind of spicy sauce found on the mini quesadillas and the excellent doubledilla.

This is one of those limited time (at least they say so now) things that gets a fantastic $1.59 price and thus is very worthy of inclusion in your Taco Bell order.  It’s a nice break from the choice between something with a crunchy outside or a thin soft one, with the only downside being that it could definitely use more meat.

For this order I also tried to take one of my usual favorites, the cheesy gordita crunch, and raise it to an amazing new level.  A few weeks ago I went to a blast from the past and customized a chalupa into a nacho cheese chalupa that is no longer on the menu but used to be one of my mainstays.

Inspired by the nacho cheese goodness, I decided to try swapping out the spicy ranch sauce on the cheesy gordita crunch, thus creating the extra cheesy gordita crunch.

I have to say this may have been too cheesy.  It did not live up to my dreams, though to be fair I had built this up quite a bit in my mind so it would have been hard to succeed there.  But now I know to either stick with the normal cheesy or make the custom nacho cheese chalupa in order to achieve maximum Taco Bell happiness.
