Twenty years ago(!) Bartolo Colon appeared in a video game for Nintendo 64.  Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey Jr. had about 800 players, but none has managed the longevity of the great Bartolo.

Last year I declared him the winner of the competition to be the last real-life active player from that game and I am happy to report in 2018 that not only is he still playing, but also none of his peers made a miraculous, unexpected comeback.  Alex Rodriguez is firmly entrenched in the broadcast booth, and while David Ortiz joined Aly Raisman on the field to kick off the Red Sox home opener, that is the closest he’s getting to being in the lineup.

At 44 years old, Bartolo snagged a contract with the Rangers and on Tuesday threw six innings, giving up seven hits and one run in a loss to the Oakland A’s.

That means I am extra, extra crowning him the champion of Nintendo 64 baseball.  May he grace the mound and our hearts for another decade.
