Working overnights includes the quirk that when you get up from your desk, you’re extremely unlikely to run into another person when you walk to the water cooler, the kitchen, vending machine or bathroom. There just aren’t enough people to make those chance encounters happen.
The situation gives you the freedom to do things you might not otherwise do in a more crowded situation, like practice punting paper towels toward the trash can.
Last month I made a miracle kick that resulted in a paper towel sitting perfectly on top of a sliiiiightly cracked door. It was amazing. No one was there to enjoy it, no reality TV crew to document it happened.
Just in case such an amazing feat repeated itself, I recorded my kicks for a while. I used Snapchat, so please excuse the vertical video.
I didn’t accomplish anything on par with the door, but I will note that the one kick that went super short and landed in the sink to the right had never happened before. When I’m not recording, I feel like my make rate is about 30 percent, and a lot of the misses end up in the very last sink.
If you’re looking for a way to shake up your work like, I highly recommend adding kicking something to your routine.
