Silver Lining

I have spent probably hundreds of hours standing across from a map of the Washington Metro system, but only this morning did I notice something about the way it is explained in the legend.

Up at the top there is a section that simply lists the end stations for each of the system’s six lines — silver, orange, blue, green, yellow red.

For some reason, this was the direction my eyes locked during my usual routine of listening to a podcast and tuning out the rest of the train on my way home.  The problem (minor in the grand scheme, and small schemes) is that I believe the silver line is listed backwards in relation to how the other lines are described.  To match them, it should start with Largo Town Center to read generally right to left (or maybe I should say curving to the right?) like its cousin, the orange line.

Yes, halfway through this map I did start to think that perhaps I was descending into a Beautiful Mind situation, but upon completing it I feel slightly less crazy.

I think the best way to see my point is to hold your hand in front of you and pretend it is a train.  Start with the blue line and follow from the start arrow to the finish arrow.  Do the same with yellow, then green, then red, then orange…then silver.

If you now think I’m crazy, let’s all just pretend this post never happened.  But if you agree, join me in forever seeing this discrepancy whenever you enjoy all the wonders the Metro system has to offer.
